The work of the two-day 4th Smart Specialist Network Meeting (RIS 3) held in Patras on May 3 and 4, was completed yesterday (Thursday, May 4).

On May 3, a visit was made to FORTH / IEHMI premises where the research and technological capabilities of the Region’s research potential for the implementation of RIS3 actions were presented.

At the 4th May Meeting of the Regional Council Hall, a series of technical issues concerning the implementation of State Aid Acts were discussed in detail, namely:

  1. Developments at the European level on the Smart Skills Strategy.
  2. Social Innovation, which is a new dimension in Smart Specialization Strategies.
  3. Implementation of the National Strategy of Smart Specialization (evaluation of the results of the business discovery process as well as assessment of the submitted proposals and new invitations).
  4. The prospect of creating synergies between the national and regional levels.

In his address the Regional Governor of West Greece Mr. Apostolos Katsifaras stressed that the elaboration and completion of RIS3 is a crucial stage for the implementation of the Regional Operational Program and essentially the one-way road for the return of our region to Development.

The experience and concerns of the 1st RIS3 Call for Research and Development in the field of microelectronics and advanced materials under the ROP were presented by the Head of EYDEP (Managing Authority of Western Greece Region) Mrs. Alkistis Stathopopoulou.

In conclusion, the implementation of the strategic priorities under the RIS3 will consider the “innovative” vision of the Western Greece Region to be a “regional pole of research and innovation for young scientists, researchers and businesses, taking advantage of its geographical location and the wealth of its innovative assets that characterize it.
